Youth financial literacy

The curricula used for Youth Financial Literacy are Merrill Lynch’s Investing Pays Off and Girl Scouts U.S.A.’s Cents Ability. The program is implemented over a ten week period. During the training period, BND pays each participant a stipend to encourage commitment and continued attendance. Upon completion of three of ten week sessions, the top eight performers in the training will be invited to own and operate their own business over the summer.

This business, the Youth Farmstand Project, teaches young people valuable lessons regarding business development and management. The youth learn to manage their business with the hope of sharing profits at the end of the summer. In addition, youth between the ages of seventeen and twenty-one who have completed this program will be invited to participate in BND’s Career Development Program.
