YouthBuild Recruitment

2012 YouthBuild Commencement ceremony OFFERS YOUTH A SECOND CHANCE.

Elizabeth, N.J.  Brand New Day, Inc. Youth Services, will host their 2nd Commencement Ceremony to recognize forty-two YouthBuild students who received their GED and Construction Trade Certificates for participating in a demanding one year program of academics, construction training and community service.  The Commencement Ceremony is scheduled for Friday, November 30, 2012, 1:00pm at the Public Library’s Main Branch located at 11 South Broad Street, Elizabeth, NJ.

YouthBuild Elizabeth is a community development program that simultaneously addresses core issues facing youth in low-income communities such as education, housing, employment and crime.  Brand New Day’s goal for YouthBuild Elizabeth is to help high school dropouts ages 16-24 obtain their GED or high school diploma, learn job skills that transforms their lives and teach them to serve their communities by building affordable housing.  Currently forty-two YouthBuild students are scheduled to graduate and receive their NCCER certifications.

In 2010, Brand New Day, Inc. received funding to facilitate two YouthBuild Programs serving at risk juveniles and youthful offenders.  Brand New Day was awarded $919,000.00 as a part of YouthBuild Newark Intermediary Initiative.  Also in 2010, BND received a FY 2009 Combined Federal Appropriation totaling 1.1 million dollars for a three year YouthBuild program through the New Jersey Attorney General’s Office, and from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 Edward Byrne Memorial Justice Assistance Grant.

In November 2010, seventy-five youth enrolled in the YouthBuild Elizabeth program, and diligently started working towards their GED and NCCR Construction Trade Certification.  On September 1, 2011, thirty students took part in the first inaugural commencement ceremony held at Union County College.
